Great Oldbury Primary Academy is a fully inclusive school, with a team of staff recruited to support all children to reduce barriers to learning.
At Great Oldbury, we pride ourselves on our ability to offer, and successfully deliver, a full curriculum that is inclusive to all children, irrespective of need. The school is very proud of inclusive approach and what all staff are able to provide to all children.
We encourage parents to discuss their child's progress and needs regularly with class teachers and, when appropriate, with our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo), Mrs Sue Gifkins. Mrs Gifkins is a hugely experienced SEND Co-ordinator and also works as The GLA Lead SEND
Mrs Gifkins works very closely with all of the teaching staff and, as a result, is able to support children with a wide range of academic, physical and social needs. We carefully plan support and interventions for all groups of children which are regularly reviewed. This may be in the form of classroom based support or withdrawn support, often in small group or one-to-one sessions using resources from within the school and from the support services within the County.
We maintain very close working relationships with children, staff, parents and other agencies. Partnership working with parents is of the utmost importance.
We work closely with other agencies and organisations to ensure that we have the necessary expertise, and in some cases equipment, to manage the specific needs of individual pupils in our care.
The school and Trust regularly review its provision for children with special needs and ensure that staff are well prepared and trained.
