English as an Additional Language (EAL)
The Gloucestershire Learning Alliance (GLA) has specialists who provide support to all EAL pupils to ensure equal and equitable access to the whole curriculum. These specialists advise our schools and help devise individual support programmes for any EAL pupils.
Pupils with EAL have full access to mainstream provision regardless of their initial proficiency in English. Where necessary, additional support will be given to help them in their acquisition of English.

We recognise that communication with school may present difficulties for some parents who are themselves learning English. We will always aim to fully include all parents in the life of the school by, wherever possible, facilitating interpretation at school meetings and at parents’ evenings, and during shared events that occur during the school day. Our commitment to effective communication is central to our school and ensures that we provide a fully accessible environment which values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs.
